NSW Touch provided all clubs an update on the opportunities for return to play last Thursday following the earlier announcement by the NSW Government of the easing of restrictions on 11 October and 25 October as vaccination milestones are reached.
Community Sport is able to recommence after 25 October so provided that date does not change, the association is planning to commence our summer competitions on Wednesday 27 October for the seniors and Friday 29 October for the juniors.
An important thing to note is that in accordance with the requirements of NSW Health and the Public Health Orders that will apply, for people over the age of 16, you will need to be double vaccinated in order to play. For those aged 16 and under, no vaccination will be required, although parents may need to be vaccinated in order to bring their children to Touch. On 1 December (this date could change) unvaccinated people will be able to recommence community sport.
The association realises that this may cause issues for some individuals and may in fact cause significant issues for some teams where they may not have enough vaccinated players to nominate a team. Anyone that finds themselves in this situation should contact the association to discuss options. Ballina Touch must follow the Public Health Orders in order to run our competitions but wants to provide some flexibility and the opportunity for those that do not or cannot be vaccinated for whatever reason to participate in our competition when the Public Health Orders permit.
One thing that is not yet clear is what restrictions might be applied to the capacity of our venue. Last year we had to make some changes to the way we ran the competitions to restrict numbers, e.g. arrive, play, leave and one parent per child in the juniors, and it’s not yet known whether we will have to do the same this year. Keep an eye on our Facebook Page for more information closer to the commencement of the competitions.
So now is the time to get your team nominated if you haven’t already and get your players registered. The dates for nominations and player registrations have been altered as follows:
Junior Competition team registrations close Friday 22 October 2021.
Junior Competition Player registration closes Tuesday 26 October 2021.
Senior Competition registrations close Wednesday 20 October 2021.
Senior Competition Player registrations close Sunday 24 October 2021.
For those considering playing Representative Touch this season, there will be separate announcements on how this will be managed but for Junior State Cup trials and selections, Sunday 31 October is likely to be the one and only opportunity for players to trial for selection so please put this in your diaries now.
For Senior State Cup, processes are already in train.
The Association is committed to providing our members with a great competitions s always and appreciates your patience and understanding as we work through these requirements. We look forward to seeing everyone back out on the field!
